Teens Fruit Salad Basket Carving Idea by Chef Pharrell

Fruit Basket made from watermelon

I thought I would share this pretty fruit carving basket I made recently. This fruit salad basket took less than an hour to make and fill with melon balls and cut fruit. I presented it at the bridal shower for the guests to enjoy with their French crepes at the brunch.
It was a beautiful centerpiece for the table.

Teens can make this easily with a just 4 tools. A melon baller, a zester, a very sharp paring knife and a long spoon for scooping out the watermelon from the shell.

First you must carefully cut the handle out. I did this in four triangle sections on each side.

Then with your pairing knife, create the scroll around the top ridge.
After this, carefully clear away all of the watermelon you can to make room for the salad.
Use the zester to create the basket effect on
the sides of the watermelon.
Use the pairing knive to make the diamonds on the top handle (do this very carefully). Top with strawberry tops and
secure with tooth picks.
If your handle becomes too loose you can secure it with strong kebobs, broken in half and pushed into the ends through the sides of the melon.

Enjoy summer fruits!
