Jr. Chef Crepe Birthday Party and

Jr. Top Chef Dessert Event

in Point Loma

Chef Pharrell instructs Jr. Chefs in how to make crepes
This unique Jr. Chef Birthday party was held yesterday in Point Loma.  The birthday girl wanted to add the Top Chef Event to the party, so we DID!
Everyone had a great time making crepes and a salad with Fresh Lemonade before  the class.

Then the girls made three different fillings for their crepes.

Kitchen Science and Kitchen Math >>>Homework that taste good by Chef Pharrell

Chef Pharrell assists Jr. Chefs with cooking classes
Jr. Chefs practicing measuring skills

Cooking can teach or reinforce basic math and science  concepts in a fun and practical way.  Giving us the opportunity  to show students that what they are learning in school is real and relevant in daily life.

 Homework that Tastes Good!

Who doesn’t love fruit juice ice pops?  A couple of ice pop molds, Dixie cups (or even plain old ice cube trays) will work perfectly for this recipe.  Try recipes that incorporate crushed fruit, milk and yogurt too. Here is a simple recipe to try with your Jr. Chef. They can substitute their favorite kiwi, mango, strawberries, peaches, pineapple, banana, orange juice instead of the melon

Kitchen science experiments are tasty ways to reinforce basic facts like how liquid freezes into solids and what is solubility? All while practice reading and measuring skills.

Frozen Fruit Pops

Ingredients:
Simple Syrup with Limes
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cup fresh lime juice
6 cups of water
Popsicles:
1 1/2 cups  homemade limeade simple syrup
1 1/2 cups frozen cherries or other frozen fruit
6 5oz Dixie cups
Foil Squares
6 sticks
Instructions:
In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat gently over medium high heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and pour into a heat proof bowl to cool. Add the lime juice and place in the refrigerator until chilled.
Prepare Dixie cups by cutting foil into squares to cover the tops of the cups. Gather sticks, one for each cup.  There should be enough to fill 6 5oz cups.
When the syrup is chilled pour 1 1/2 cups into a blender  add frozen cherries.  Puree until smooth.
Pour evenly into the Dixie cups and cover with the foil.  Make a very small cut in the top in the center and place a stick into the cut.
Freeze the cups until the filling is frozen solid.  Tear away the paper when ready to eat.
Peel away the paper and enjoy!
