Cherry Pie Tarts Recipe Just for Cool Kids
Looking for a fun activity for you kid to do that does not involve your television or a video game ? Here is an idea for some fun in the kitchen with your child today:
Cherry Pie Tarts are very simple to make. Only four ingredients are necessary and you will be finished within an hour. Ready?
Here's your ingredient list:
One can of Comstock More Cherries Cherry Pie Filling
8 oz of cream cheese, softened
1/4 teaspoon Lemon Juice (optional)
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla
One 15 oz package of Puff Pastry
Here are the directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Spray a 12 cup muffin tin with Pam or any canola oil spray.
Open the can of cherries and have you child empty them into a colander and rinse the filling part off of the cherries. Gently pat them dry on paper towels. (You don't want a lot of moisture in your dough or it will get soggy.)
Lightly sprinkle a pastry board or clean counter top with flour. Have your child spread it with their
hands onto a rolling pin and cover their hands lightly with flour as they are doing this task.
Using the floured rolling pin, slightly flatten one sheet of dough.
Take a water glass or something with a firm edge and dip the rim in flour and press on the dough to make 4" circles.
Help your child lightly press each circle into the prepared muffin pan, creating a bowl for your tarts.
Mix your softened cheese with vanilla and lemon juice (if desired). Place 2 teaspoons full of this mixture into each tart. (Or just have your child use one of your spoons from the drawer and practice scooping out a small amount and sliding it into the tart with their finger...yum).
Finally take four cherries and top the filled tarts. Be careful to leave enough for all of the tarts. If you have some left, divide them among the tarts.
Lightly pull the sides down on top of each tart. It will not cover the filling all of the way, but it will look very pretty when it's all done cooking.
Now have your child hold the tray and take a picture of your child's creation before they are baked.
Bake for 15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Remove from oven and take another picture.
Let them cool 15 minutes and then pop them out of the muffin tins carefully with a fork or a knife.
Top with whipped topping if desired.
Take another picture of your child holding the tart and send it to me!
