Red White and Blue Nachos ! Happy July 4th! Here is a fun dessert by Chef Pharrell

Red White and Blue Nachos for July 4th

A really fun dessert to make in the summer for kids of all ages!

My Cool Kid Cooks Jr. Chef Summer Camp Dessert Nachos

Jr. Chef's Making Dessert Nachos

Ingredients:

2 large flour tortillas

1 tablespoon sweet cream butter

2 tablespoons of cinnamon sugar mixuure

1/2 cup of fresh blueberries

1 large banana

3/4 cup of sliced strawberries

1 cup of heavy cream (if you want to buy cool whip or use canned whipped cream this is fine too)

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup powder sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use foil for easy clean up

Melt the butter and then using a natural bristle pastry brush or a spoon, coat the top of two flour tortillas. Sprinkle both with the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Cut both tortillas into 6 large triangles.

Put on baking sheet, butter side up.

Bake until crisp, about 8 minutes. Check them to be sure they are crisp or they won't hold the weight of the fruit.

Now top with whipped cream and decorate each tortilla with fresh fruit!

Enjoy immediately!

Jr. Top Chef Birthday party in San Diego with My Cool Kid Cooks

This unique Jr. Chef Birthday party was held yesterday in Point Loma. The birthday girl wanted to add the Top Chef Event to the party, so we DID!

Everyone had a great time making crepes and a salad with Fresh Lemonade before the class.

Then the girls made three different fillings for their crepes.

Teaching Kids to Cook by Chef Pharrell

“Why should kids learn to cook?”

(Besides being lots of fun)

1. Cooking activitiees help kids make Healthy Food Choices -

Learning to cook helps kids to learn about nutrition and healthy eating. Fun recipes and experiences introduce kids to great habits that can last a lifetime.

2. Boost their Self Esteem. If your child needs a boost of self confidence, (and who doesn't!) cooking in the kitchen will do just that. They are accomplishing a task, learning something important and contributing to the family.

3. Kids will be more apt to eat what they make. Perhaps, it is the enthusiasm that goes along with creating something themselves; but they are more likely to eat whatever

decide to cook and prepare. And more so if they prepare it for family or friends.

4. Kids learn life skills. Science, Language, Math and

Creativity- Cooking will help reinforce all these subjects! This can be especially helpful when kids are growing up and first out on their own. They won't have to rely on fast food and junk food to sustain them.

5. Kids get to practice creativity and use their imagination. Kids cooking activities are a great way to express

themselves and enjoy their creations, away from the television and the phone.

Kitchen Safety for Jr. Chefs by Chef Pharrell My Cool Kid Cooks, San Diego, CA

Safely handling raw meats is an important lesson to learn for Jr. Chefs

Teaching our Jr. Chefs to enjoy cooking is important but safety is a priority in the kitchen. All lessons must begin with a review of safety rules. Rules for Chefs are like rules for driving, they become second nature; but they keep us safe.

1. If you are ill, be courteous and use proper precautions when handling food and drinks.

3. Clean all veggies and fruit separately from raw meats and poultry and eggs. Use separate cutting boards and clean in them in the dishwasher.

4. Always clean items that were in contact with raw meats and eggs immediately after using.

5. No licking mixing spoon or fingers/ use sample spoons only for tasting

6. Check stove top and oven before moving away.

7. Always point handles to the side on stove top to prevent accidental burns and spills.

7. Keep appliances away from sink when operating.

9. Prevent accidental spills by putting ingredients and tools away after using to keep working area clear.

10. Always have adults close by when working in the kitchen

Summer Camp For Petite Jr. Chefs

North County San Diego, CA

Petite Jr. Chef Summer Camp Cooking Classes are just for our younger Jr. Chefs ages 5 & 6

This Summer Camp Series of classes are designed with activites shorter in length and more appropriate for this age group.

The emphasis is on fun; kitchen healthy practices; kitchen safety for little hands; introduction to measurements and blending.

Each Petite Jr. Chef will bring home their own recipe book after class so that they can repeat their success at home with family.

Each parent will receive a booklet called, “Helping your Jr. Chef to Succeed”. In it they will find suggestions for home activities to encourage their Petite Jr. Chef and information about what we have covered during our class.

On the menu:

Gig Salad Review for Poway Teen's 13th Jr Chef Birthday

Very clean, organized and such a charming, educated lady!

Chef Pharrell was fabulous when organizing and paying attention to our needs to a tee! She and I had several conversations and worked VERY WELL as a team not ever meeting her in person until the event. I felt like she was so professional and like a family that I looked forward to my son's 13th birthday cooking party!!! I thought it might be too boring, but it was quite the opposite. Chef Pharrell was so organized, had all the food prepped and put in several baggies for each child to work with. We had 18 kids attend the party, so there was 18 cutting boards, knives, food bags, personal recipe tips of how to make the foods, proper etiquette, how to set a table, how to fold a napkin, and so on. These kids not only learned how to cook 3 different meals that night, but carried life lessons home that had every parent proud they sent their child to this party!!!! I can't tell you how many teenage parents stayed to learn a bit themselves, taste the foods, and watch as their child made their dinner to take home for the family. There was chef games to play in between while the food would cook, like Cooking Cranium. The terminology used and learned was wonderful. The kids visually saw and had hand's on work and learned all about measurements, how to time meals with sides, and so on. What a fabulous party and full of many life lessons! My son, Alexander wants to have Chef Pharrell at our home monthly in 2013 and so do we! She even gave Alexander a gift of kitchen gadgets for his favorite meals he loves to cook. She was very personable and a lovely lady. Soooo glad we used her and had this opportunity in San Diego. I HIGHLY recommend Chef Pharrell and her assistant as well. Of course I forgot her name, but she was just as crazy busy working the party and washing the gadgets between each dish. A MUST-HAVE party for all ages!!! Thanks again for everything!
